NASA's Journey to Mars - Overlook!
Nasa has been developing its technology further to limits in which the humans will be send to an asteroid and to Mars. Both of the journeys are set to happen in a decade, or more precisely - by 2025 to an asteroid, and by 2030s to Mars, as outlined in the U.S. National Policy and the NASA Authorization Act both issued in 2010.
You may be thinking, why Mars?
Being an ultimate rich destination for countless scientific purposes, Mars is the closest planet to Earth and therefore a wonderful opportunity for the solar system to be expanded. With suitable conditions for life and possible evidences of micro life found out in recent years, the question that we have all been asking ourselves is – Is life possible in space? The initial steps of discovering Mars with a human expedition have started in orbiting laboratories in the International Space Station. Proving the world that the technology today has got to a point where everything is achievable, NASA has created the virtual space stations considering every single aspect – including body transformations, temperature, communications systems etc.
The next phase is obviously the deep space – or in other words, sending a team of explorers in a spacecraft called Orion to explore an asteroid. Happening in 2020, this project will also test new systems, capabilities and whether or not human missions are possible for a longer time in Mars. Therefore, Orion is certainly a powerful launch vehicle that is set yet to explore.
At the moment, robotic spacecrafts orbit in and around the territory of Mars, providing more knowledge to the NASA Mars Science Laboratory. The famous Curiosity spacecraft is the one that sends radiation data from the surface on Mars, whilst monitoring and seeking for signs of life. As the technology and the communications are being upgraded, discovering signs of past life will be new starting projects – in the Mars 2020 rover.
Finally, NASA has a hard working mission to develop in order to prepare the astronauts and future spacecrafts for safely exploring the next giant leap for humanity. Being a global leader, NASA works on these projects accompanied by the U.S. commercial space industry partners. Obviously, expanding the human presence on space and creating a commercial space industry are upcoming goals for the human nation – and its progress over time.
